  • March 2025 The School of Nursing, Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention signed a strategic cooperation agreement on chronic disease prevention and control.

  • 2025 In ShanghaiRanking's 2025 Rankings of Chinese University Majors, the Nursing major of Sun Yat-sen University was again rated A+, ranking 4th nationwide.

  • 2020 The School passed the Ministry of Education's accreditation for undergraduate Nursing programmes with the highest result, obtaining an 8-year accreditation period.

  • 2019 The undergraduate nursing programme was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site.

  • 2019 The "Kelin Nursing" Elite Training Programme for undergraduate Nursing students was launched.

  • 2018 The nursing discipline entered the global top 100 of ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (Nursing) for the first time, ranking 2nd among institutions in mainland China.

  • 2017 The School launched the country's first training programmes for urological specialist nurses and dysphagia specialist nurses.

  • 2016 The School of Nursing, together with the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (USA), the School of Nursing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Faculty of Health at the University of Technology Sydney, established the Global Alliance for Chronic Care Research Center.

  • 2015 The School of Nursing launched the first systematic and standardized training-of-trainers programme in China for oncology nurse case managers.

  • 2010 The undergraduate nursing programme was selected by the Ministry of Education as part of the sixth cohort of National Characteristic Undergraduate Specialty Construction Programmes.

  • 2005 The undergraduate nursing programme was recognized as a Brand Specialty of Higher Education Institutions in Guangdong Province.

  • 2004 The School of Nursing was approved as a discipline authorized to confer the Doctoral degree in Nursing and began enrolling doctoral students in Nursing.

  • 2001 In collaboration with Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, and the Hong Kong Enterostomal Therapists Association, the School launched the Sun Yat-sen University School of Enterostomal Therapy, the first institution in China to provide standardized training for specialist nurses.

  • 2001 Sun Yat-sen University merged with Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, and the School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was renamed the School of Nursing, Sun Yat-sen University.

  • 2000 The School of Nursing began enrolling research-oriented master's students in nursing.

  • 1999 The School of Nursing was approved as an authorized unit for conferring the master's degree in Nursing.

  • 1998 The School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was established on the basis of the former Department of Nursing and the Affiliated Health School.

  • 1987 The Department of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was established, becoming one of the first institutions in China and the earliest in South China to offer higher education in nursing.

  • 1985 The Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences launched undergraduate nursing education.

  • 1985 The Affiliated School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen Medical College was renamed the Affiliated Health School of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences.

  • 1983 An evening junior college programme in nursing was launched.

  • 1978 The Affiliated School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen Medical College was re-established.

  • 1957 The Affiliated School of Nursing of Guangzhou Medical College was renamed the Affiliated School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen Medical College.

  • 1956 The Affiliated School of Nursing of South China Medical College was renamed the Affiliated School of Nursing of Guangzhou Medical College.

  • 1953 The Senior Nursing Vocational School of the Guangzhou Private Boji Hospital merged with the Affiliated School of Nursing of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, and the Affiliated School of Nursing of South China Medical College was founded.

  • 1925 The Affiliated School of Nursing of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University was established.

  • 1913 The Senior Nursing Vocational School of the Guangzhou Private Boji Hospital was established.
