2004 The School of Nursing was approved as a discipline authorized to confer the Doctoral degree in Nursing and began enrolling doctoral students in Nursing.
2001 In collaboration with Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, and the Hong Kong Enterostomal Therapists Association, the School launched the Sun Yat-sen University School of Enterostomal Therapy, the first institution in China to provide standardized training for specialist nurses.
2001 Sun Yat-sen University merged with Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, and the School of Nursing of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences was renamed the School of Nursing, Sun Yat-sen University.
2000 The School of Nursing began enrolling research-oriented master's students in nursing.

1953 The Senior Nursing Vocational School of the Guangzhou Private Boji Hospital merged with the Affiliated School of Nursing of the School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, and the Affiliated School of Nursing of South China Medical College was founded.
